Another SPP Hire
We are extremely pleased to announce that L’Eau Vivante Inc has become our next employer by hiring through the Portal.  L’Eau Vivante has this to say about the hiring experience:

We recently had the opportunity to use the Waterloo Region Social Purchasing Portal (SPP) to hire a full-time administrative assistant for our business.

At L’Eau Vivante, we provide comprehensive financial planning to individuals in all stages of life.  This creates a work environment which requires commitment, hard work and dedication.

We found the hiring process with the SPP to be a positive and enjoyable experience.  Along with their partners, the SPP provides pre- and post- job training, showing their commitment to the program and the community.

Talk it up!

Wondering how to get a leg-up on the competition? Several studies have shown that factors other than price and quality help determine consumer preferences: social responsibility is an important deciding factor.

As Allen L. White (2007) noted, “…societal expectations of business stretch the traditional boundaries of companies from purely profit-driven entities to organizations with an obligation to operate with an enduring commitment to the public interest”1

The Social Purchasing Portal (SPP) offers a unique opportunity to improve the community at No Added Cost. Your purchases, from a socially conscious business, fuel business growth that leads to job opportunities for people with challenges. Not only do these people help boost economic activities with their renewed purchasing power, they contribute to the community with a restored self-worth.  In short, by promoting the SPP, you are helping to build social capital, while contributing to business growth and developing the community.

Tell clients and vendors that you support the SPP.  And since you are building social capital, capitalize on it!  Provide a link to sppwaterlooregion.org on your website (we rank highly on Google).

Another way to "talk it up" is to add a tag to your email signature.  Try one of the following tags:

Strong communities build strong business.  Support the SPP and learn more at sppwaterlooregion.org.

Help build social capital in our community through the SPP. Visit sppwaterlooregion.org for information.

Breakfast at the Sugar Factory

Portal partners gathered again in large numbers at The Sugar Factory on 286 Duke Street Kitchener, Tuesday, July 31, for the Portal Partners’ Breakfast. It was a great networking event. Portal partners had a unique opportunity to meet with one another, talk about business, explore business opportunities and discussed the SPP.  Attendees put face to names, developed and further deepened business relationships.

This is one of the benefits of being part of the Portal. The Sugar Factory which also houses the  Design Lab, is a great space for events of any kind.  We highly recommend it for your next event!  Our next breakfast will be in October at Artal’s Laser Engraving, 891 Guelph Street, Kitchener.  For details, please contact us at info@sppwaterlooregion.org.

SPP at the Regional Tradeshow

SPP staff and volunteers gave away hundreds of carnations at the Regional Tradeshow on September 18.  The flowers were largely donated by Hearts and Flowers at Westmount, one of our newest partners.  Staff and volunteers also wore our new SPP tee-shirts.  These went over very well with many people stopping us to ask about the SPP.  If you would like an SPP tee, please contact Wendy.  Please specify size and quantity; $12 each.
