Local, non-profit employment and training organizations are at the heart of this project. The Waterloo Region SPP is modeled after the hugely successful portal in Vancouver. Battling drugs, prostitution, alcoholism and homelessness in the Downtown Eastside District, the Vancouver SPP employed fifty previously unemployable people in its first year of operation.  We expect a similar success in our Region.

The more employment service providers are registered with the Portal, the better the selection of candidates to respond to the employment needs of our suppliers. 

Local agencies such as the Employment & Income Support, Working for Work and Lutherwood have signed up as employment service providers for the Portal to be able to refer their candidates for these jobs.  These agencies will screen and refer qualified candidates to the employment opportunities that become available through the Portal. They view the Portal as an important link for many of their clients to the local job market!
